After serving about two weeks as interim Maumee mayor, Richard Carr officially took over mayoral duties on Thursday morning during a swearing-in ceremony.

Mr. Carr, who had been council president, takes over for Tim Wagener, who resigned in October because of his and his wife’s health. He had been mayor since 1999.

The change in office follows rules in the city charter that calls for the council president to step into the mayor’s office.

In a meeting Thursday night, council chose Julie Rubini to replace Mr. Carr on the panel and elected Brent Buehrer as council president.
