BLADE STAFF

The annual holiday tour of the historic Century House is to be from 1 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9.

The cabin was the home of Ina Duley Ogdon, poet and hymn writer who wrote the lyrics to “Brighten the Corner Where You Are” in the cabin, parts of which date to the 1830s.

The hymn, one of thousands of poems and hymns penned by Ms. Ogdon, gained international fame and was popularized by evangelist Billy Sunday.

The house at 6829 Summerfield Rd. will have the theme “It’s a Wonderful Life” for the tour. The Dickens Singers are to perform at 3 and 5 p.m. Dec. 8. Pam Menke is to play the dulcimer from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9.

The tour is sponsored by the owner, Jeff Guyton, and the Century House Preservationists, the volunteer group that maintains the property and decorates it for the holidays.

Tickets will be $5 at the door. A shuttle service will leave from 6875 Douglas Rd. Admission includes the tour, a brochure, and light refreshments by the fire. All proceeds benefit restoration efforts at the cabin.
