Memorial dedicated to slain Elmore officer
Six-year-old Marieh Chavez of Woodville did something many children would enjoy when she stamped her hands into hardening concrete, leaving a hand print — but she did it without smiling. The concrete was the foundation for a memorial to her father, Jose “Andy” Chavez, 26, an off-duty Elmore police officer shot dead in early March while celebrating his birthday at a Fremont bar. The memorial was unveiled during a somber dedication ceremony at Walter Ory Park in downtown Elmore.
