Family counselor’s talk to focus on child rearing

2/7/2013

Family counselor and best-selling author Michael Gurian will give a lecture in Toledo today on strategies for rearing children who are successful both in school and post-school life.

“The Minds of Boys and Girls: Helping Our Children Do Their Best in School and Life” starts at 7 p.m. in the St. John Berchmans Chapel at St. John’s Jesuit High School, and is free and open to the public.

The author of 26 books about children and their differing learning skills, Mr. Gurian is co-founder and president of the Gurian Institute, Colorado Springs, which conducts research on learning, trains professionals, and develops educational pilot programs.

Mr. Gurian has previously spoken at St. John’s in 2005 and 2007. His presentation today is co-sponsored by St. John’s and by St. Ursula Academy.

“St. Ursula and St. John’s are strong proponents of single-sex education because we recognize that boys and girls do learn differently,” said Bryon Borgelt, the principal at St. John’s Jesuit.
