Maumee OKs $4.9M in construction work
4/2/2013Maumee City Council awarded four contracts Monday night totaling $4,853,990 for construction of a garage and office building for the city’s public service department.
Spieker Co. of Perrysburg received the largest, a $3,756,000 contract for general trades work on the 53,744-square-foot building at the service division's 210 Illinois Ave. headquarters. Other contracts were awarded to Dimech Services of Toledo, $646,515 for climate control and plumbing; Romanoff Electric of Toledo, $402,375 for electrical work, and S.A. Comunale of Fremont, $49,100 for a fire-protection system.
Twenty-nine firms bid for the contracts. Even including $185,525 in optional work, the total bid cost is 11.8 percent below the published engineer's estimate of $5,505,695 for the building.
