Scott High honors groundbreaking administrator
William A. Brower, Jr., and artist Barbara Selvey celebrate the unveiling of the portrait of Mr. Brower’s late mother during a dedication ceremony for the Louise Brower Performing Arts Theater at Scott High School in Toledo. Mrs. Brower was Toledo’s first African-American school administrator who, when she was named principal of Scott in 1975, became the first woman to lead a large metropolitan high school in Ohio. Mrs. Brower’s husband, William A., Sr., who died in 2004, was a longtime Blade reporter, columnist and, when he retired in 1996, associate editor of The Blade.
