Toledo Correctional Institution confirms death of inmate Dale Boerio

Dale Boerio had been an inmate at Toledo Correctional Institution since May 2008.

Authorities have identified a Toledo Correctional Institution inmate who died today as 27-year-old Dale Boerio, of Holland.

He was transported from the prison to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m., said Steve Kahle, Lucas County Coroner's Office investigator. He had been an inmate at the prison since May 2008.

Mr. Kahle said it does not appear there are signs of foul play in Mr. Boerio's death. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Mr. Boerio was serving a 40-years-to-life prison sentence for a conviction in a Lucas County Common Pleas court on two charges of rape, first-degree felonies, and two charges of third-degree gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies, according to court records.

Darlene Mitchell, a spokesman at the Toledo prison, said she was not able to provide any additional details about the death, as it was still under investigation by the Findlay Ohio Highway Patrol. The patrol's Columbus office also declined to release details.
