Zoo to throw party for Lucas’ 2nd birthday

Lucas the elephant calf celebrates his 2nd birthday at the Toledo Zoo on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with his cake to be presented to him at 1:30 p.m., zoo officials said.

His enrichment presents were hand-crafted by ZOOTeens and zookeepers. The zoo’s catering department prepared his cake. Sponsored by McDonald’s, the party is free with regular zoo admission.

At birth, Lucas stood 36 inches tall and weighed 305 pounds. Today, he is about 60 inches tall and weighs about 1,630 pounds.

He likes to chase ducks and spin in circles.
