Starr sidewalk project to cause traffic headaches

6/11/2013

Oregon officials want to warn motorists that impending sidewalk construction will cause traffic congestion along Starr Avenue and Pickle Road.

The city was awarded a $240,000 Safe Routes to Schools grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation for installing sidewalks on Starr, Pickle, and Edward Street, along with curb cuts for handicapped accessibility. The project started Monday with the Edward segment and is to be finished in late September.

The new sidewalks will connect subdivisions with neighborhood schools.

The walks will be installed on Edward from Navarre Avenue to South Eastmoreland Drive, on the south side of Pickle between Coy Elementary School and Eastland Drive, on the north side of Pickle between Coy Road and Laura Lane, and along the south side of Starr between Coy and Lallendorf Road.

If construction is necessary within a driveway, the driveway will be marked with a pink X, and the property owner will be notified at least 24 hours in advance. Sprinkler systems or invisible dog fences should be marked if they are in the municipal right-of-way. The city’s department of public service has flag markers available.
