Thousands lose power in area

Saturday evening’s storms cut power to thousands in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

Wood County was among the hardest-hit areas locally with 1,100 Toledo Edison customers without power. Outages there appeared to be concentrated in the Weston area, where 688 lacked power, according to a Toledo Edison spokesman.

In Lucas County, 290 Toledo Edison customers lost power. Many were in the western part of the county. Spencer Township had 90 outages, Swanton Township had 42, and Sylvania had 31, according to Toledo Edison.

Fulton County had more than 100 power outages among Toledo Edison customers. Chesterfield Township in the northern part of the county suffered the most with 36.

Toledo Edison predicted power would be restored to most of its customers overnight.

In Monroe County, more than 500 Detroit Edison customers were without power after a storm moved through about 7:30 p.m., according to a DTE spokesman who said he had neither exact numbers of outages, where most were located nor an estimate of when power would be restored.

The National Weather Service’s warning for thunderstorms that were moving southeast through northwest Ohio included Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Seneca counties.

A chance of thunderstorms is forecast daily through the end of the week for much of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
