Sylvania's River Ball Race scheduled for Saturday

The City of Sylvania’s annual River Ball Race on Ten Mile Creek is scheduled for Saturday.

During the benefit for the Sylvania Youth Conservation Corps, area children float colorful plastic balls down the creek from a launching point at the River Deck in Harroun Community Park. The race starts at 1:30 p.m. sharp.

More than 70 prizes will go to the early finishers. A top prize this year is a $600 gift card to Cedar Point in Sandusky.

Tickets are $2.50 each or $10 for five and may be purchased at Brieschke’s Bakery, 5639 Main St., and the city’s Parks and Forestry Building, 8425 Sylvania-Metamora Rd. There is a limit of 2,000 tickets sold.

The Sylvania Youth Conservation Corps, started by the late City Forester Art Landseadel, who died June 28 at the age of 91, is a 20-year-old program that teaches Sylvania youth business and life principles through the nature conservation and landscaping projects that beautify Sylvania with trees and plants.
