Turnpike work to close Manley Rd. for 2 years
7/8/2013Motorists on I-475/U.S. 23 should get by relatively freely when the Ohio Department of Transportation starts rebuilding the freeway’s bridges over the Ohio Turnpike next week, but a local road that passes beneath the same bridges will be closed for about two years.
Manley Road will be detoured at I-475 because it is the best access point for contractors working on the $11.8 million project, said Theresa Pollick, an ODOT spokesman in Bowling Green.
Manley is scheduled to close July 15 and reopen in June, 2015.
During that time, state contractors will build two new lanes between the northbound and southbound viaducts carrying I-475/U.S. 23 over the Turnpike, Manley, and Swan Creek, then use those lanes for traffic while the existing spans are re-decked.
The new lanes will become left shoulders once the project is complete, but will be ready for traffic after I-475/U.S. 23 is widened in the future, Ms. Pollick said.
Two lanes will be maintained on I-475/U.S. 23 during peak travel times, but night and weekend lane closings will occur.
Lane closings also will be needed on the turnpike.
Manley will be detoured via Garden, Holloway, and Salisbury roads.
