The Lucas County Operating Vehicles Intoxicated Task Force today will conduct three sobriety checkpoints as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

The checkpoints start at 8 p.m. today and end at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Stops will be on Reynolds Road, near Central Avenue in Sylvania Township; on Airport Highway near Spring Meadows in Springfield Township, and on McCord Road near Angola Road, also in Springfield Township.

Toledo police, since Aug. 16 and continuing through Sept. 2, are working a Labor Day traffic enforcement blitz.

Officers working the extra enforcement patrols will focus on speeding and those who are driving under the influence.

Toledo’s stops, paid for by federal grants, are also part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

State troopers from the Fremont post and police from Fremont and from Clyde joined forces Thursday night and early Friday at checkpoints along U.S. 20 west of Clyde and on East State Street in Fremont to combat alcohol-related traffic crashes.

At the Clyde site, officers interacted with 430 motorists, resulting in two arrests for operating a vehicle while impaired; one citation for driving under suspension/no driver’s license, and five other traffic violations. The checkpoint ran from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The hours at the Fremont checkpoint on East State were limited to midnight to 2 a.m. Friday because of weather conditions.

Troopers and police screened 21 drivers, with no arrests for operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
