West Toledo library to close for expansion
9/16/2013The West Toledo branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 1320 Sylvania Ave., is set to close starting Sept. 30 for several months of restoration and expansion.
The branch is expected to reopen in the summer.
The last day the West Toledo branch will be open to the public before the closure is Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“Great care is being taken to restore and enhance the beautiful Tudor architecture,” Charlie Os-wanski, library facilities and operations superintendent, said.
Branch manager Julie Bursten said patrons are eager for the updates to their library.
“Our customers are excited about a larger, dedicated children’s area, an elevator that will provide access to our large meeting room, more computers, and a more accessible print collection,” she said. “Customers are also very excited about the restoration of the section of the building that was constructed in 1930. Restoration includes new carpeting, restoring the pendant lighting, and removing the metal ductwork from the wooden arches in the ceiling,” she said.
Patrons can call the branch before the temporary closing if they have questions.
Details on the project’s cost were unavailable.
West Toledo branch patrons can visit other branches, including Kent, 3101 Collingwood Blvd.; Lagrange, 3422 Lagrange St.; Sanger, 3030 W. Central Ave., and Washington, 5560 Harvest Lane.
