Rail-punctured tank spills fuel in Napoleon

BLADE STAFF

NAPOLEON — About 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a railroad locomotive Tuesday when a broken rail punctured its fuel tank.

A Napoleon, Defiance & Western train was operating near Perry Street when the rail broke and hit the engine's fuel tank, piercing a hole roughly 3 inches square, Napoleon Fire Chief Robert Bennett said.

A retaining pit kept the fuel at the site, the chief said.
