Elmore council leader to become mayor

10/11/2013

ELMORE — The president of Elmore Village Council will be sworn in as mayor after the death of long-time Mayor Lowell Krumnow.

Matt Damschroder, council president and acting mayor, said he will be sworn in Sunday. He succeeds Mr. Krumnow, 56, who died Sunday from a malignant brain tumor, according to family members.

Mr. Damschroder’s move into the mayor’s spot creates another vacancy. “That leaves an open seat on council, and it is council’s job to fill that. They have 30 days, and if within 30 days they don’t appoint someone, it is the mayor’s duty,” he said.

Mr. Krumnow served as village mayor for about two decades. His term would have expired Dec. 31, 2015.
