$90,000 sought from couple tied to defunct school
10/19/2013The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is seeking to recoup more than $90,000 that was stolen or misappropriated in 2006 and 2007 by a Toledo couple once associated with a now-defunct Toledo charter school.
A complaint filed Tuesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court seeks $90,307 from William and Kari DiCianni. Mrs. DiCianni, who was director of the former Performing Arts School of Metropolitan Toledo, was fired in January, 2007, and her husband was sentenced to five years and four months in prison in February, 2008, after pleading no contest to passing bad checks, forgery, grand theft, and money laundering. The couple “issued checks to themselves and students … failed to pay vendors [and] remit federal, state, local, Medicare, and school district taxation,” the complaint states. None of the money due to the school has been paid, it states.
