PORT CLINTON -- The Port Clinton teen who brought this community together to celebrate Christmas early has died, the city's police department has confirmed.

Devin Kohlman, 13, of East Second Street, died early Monday evening, police Chief Rob Hickman wrote on the department Facebook page. Young Devin's own Facebook page also confirmed the death, telling people "though you are no longer with us, your spirit will live on through the hearts of so many."

Devin returned home Oct. 27 after doctors at Cincinnati Children's Hospital told him all of his treatment options had been exhausted.

Community members welcomed him home by lining the streets, and then rallied around the boy and his wish to have a final Christmas by decorating storefronts and the park outside his home, bringing in snow and a Christmas tree, and launching a Christmas card campaign.

Service arrangements are pending, Chief Hickman said.
