SWANTON — The colonel and commander at the Ohio Air National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing has been named executive assistant to the chief of the National Guard Bureau, officials announced Tuesday.

Col. Steven Nordhaus, who has been with the 180th at Toledo Express Airport since January, 2011, will leave for Washington in December and serve as executive assistant to Gen. Frank Grass.

“Colonel Nordhaus’ selection gives the Ohio National Guard an excellent opportunity to showcase its leaders to the Department of Defense, the Air Force, and National Guard Bureau,” said Deborah A. Ashenhurst, adjutant general of the Ohio National Guard. “His strength in leadership and his experience with the Ohio Air National Guard will be invaluable in his new role.”

His replacement for the 180th will be made later, she said.
