Perrysburg man killed when car collides with tractor-trailer

LYONS, Ohio -- A Perrysburg man was killed Friday when he drove left of center and struck an oncoming tractor-trailer on U.S. 20 in Fulton County's Royalton Township, troopers at the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Irvin E. Hughes, Jr., 62, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Mr. Hughes was eastbound on U.S. 20 near County Road 8 about 4:30 p.m. when he struck the westbound semi driven by Allen L. Reynolds, Jr., of Muncy, Pa.

The semi drove off the road and overturned, spilling its load of coal into a field.

Mr. Reynolds was not injured.

Both men wore seat belts, troopers said.

The road was still closed at 9:30 p.m. as crews cleaned up the debris and the coal.
