Perrysburg Twp. approves $12.7 million in expenses
12/18/2013The Perrysburg Township Trustees today unanimously approved an expected $12.7 million in expenses as part of a 2014 preliminary budget.
Previously at a meeting in July, the board approved an estimated $20 million in revenues by the end of the year - that includes a more than $12 million surplus from 2013.
A final budget will begin to be revised in January, said township Fiscal Officer Shirley Haar. The majority of the 2014 estimated revenues are expected to come from three fire levies and a police levy that collectively generate about $5 million.
"We should do pretty well next year," she said.
The township is entering 2014 with a surplus of just over $12 million left over the general fund, special revenues, and trust funds.
At this time last year, expenses for 2013 were estimated at $10 million, but Ms. Haar said the actual 2013 budget grew, based somewhat on rising health insurance and fuel costs.
Fire and EMS services are expected to incur $4 million in expenses in 2014 - $1 million more than expenditures this year.
The police department's estimated budget for 2014 is $3.6 million; an amount that trustee Gary Britten said he would like to see reduced.
"We're going to have to do some soul searching on the police budget," he said during the meeting.
