MONROE — A Carleton, Mich., man was seriously injured Friday morning when a car he was driving and a garbage truck collided at a Frenchtown Township intersection.

William Xerri, 70, was listed in critical condition Friday at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center in Trenton, Mich., after the 7:40 a.m. collision at North Telegraph and Mall roads.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Mr. Xerri was southbound on North Telegraph when he failed to stop for a red light at Mall and drove into the path of the garbage truck, which was turning left onto westbound Mall.

Mr. Xerri did not wear a seat belt, deputies said.

Truck driver Patrick Williams, 40, of Lambertville was not hurt in the collision, which remained under investigation.
