Vehicles being hauled by tractor-trailer catch fire en route on Ohio Turnpike

DELTA, Ohio – Several vehicles being hauled by a tractor-trailer on the Ohio Turnpike caught fire today, a Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

The fire, in the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike near milepost 37 in Pike Township, was reported at 11:38 a.m.

Lanes were closed only long enough to allow emergency responders to access the scene, the dispatcher said.

As of 1 p.m., the lanes were open again, but a fire truck was headed back to the car hauler because of additional smoldering, the dispatcher said.

It was not clear how the fire started or how many vehicles were damaged.

No injuries were reported.
