GYPSUM, Ohio — Westbound State Rt. 2 will be closed for about eight hours today between the Catawba Island and Port Clinton East interchanges for bridge and pavement repairs in a work zone, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced Sunday.

The recent warmup and heavy rain after 13 days of subfreezing weather caused pavement heaves and potholes that must be repaired in the stretch near Gypsum, where the eastbound lanes are closed for the remediation of an under-

ground mine, according to Theresa Pollick, an ODOT spokesman.

Westbound Route 2 traffic will be detoured via State Rts. 53 and 163 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Eastbound traffic will not be affected, Ms. Pollick said.
