Tiffin resident found dead in Sandusky River

BLADE STAFF

TIFFIN — A Tiffin man was found dead in the Sandusky River’s swollen waters on Christmas Eve, but neither foul play nor an accidental drowning are suspected.

Tiffin police and the city’s fire and rescue department responded to a report around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday from two witnesses who went down to the river to view recent flooding levels. The witnesses spotted a body in the water and alerted authorities, who found Ronald G. Martin, 58, in front of his house at 19 Marlyn St.

The water had come up into his front yard, and Mr. Martin was discovered near the doorway where it appears he collapsed, said Tiffin police Lt. Jason Windsor.

Police believe the man was leaving his house when he had a medical problem. His truck, parked across the street, was running, and he wore water boots.

Dr. Mark Akers, the Sandusky County coroner, responded to the scene but did not order an autopsy, Lieutenant Windsor said.
