The Wood County District Public Library will pay tribute to the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The library is located at 251 N. Main St.

The Martin Luther King, Jr., Day tribute is sponsored by the city of Bowling Green’s Human Relations Commission and will feature keynote speaker Judith Jackson May. She is the program coordinator for Bowling Green State University’s school of educational foundations, leadership, and policy. Music selections will be provided by the family Gospel singing group Shades of Brown.

During the event the Human Relations Commission will present the annual Drum Major Peace Award, named in honor of Mr. King. This year the award will be presented posthumously to community leaders Joan Gordon and David Miller.

Both recipients were exemplars of community compassion and acceptance. “Through their work and deeds, Ms. Gordon and Mr. Miller contributed immeasurably to the Bowling Green Community and left a legacy of community caring,” program organizers wrote in a prepared statement.

There is no charge to attend the public event.
