4 misdemeanor counts dropped in dog’s death

BOWLING GREEN — Four misdemeanor charges have been dismissed in Bowling Green Municipal Court against a former Pemberville man who was indicted on two felony counts of endangering children for fatally shooting his neighbor’s dog in front of two children.

Christopher Zimmerman, 65, who now lists an address in Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., had been charged with aggravated menacing, injuring animals, inducing panic, and discharging firearms in connection with the Sept. 8 incident. City Prosecutor Matt Reger said he asked the court to dismiss the misdemeanors in light of the more serious charges in Wood County Common Pleas Court.

The indictment alleges Mr. Zimmerman shot his neighbor’s dog in front of the family’s 6-year-old and 8-year-old. His defense attorney contends Mr. Zimmerman fired in self-defense when the dog charged him.
