Weather service issues winter weather advisory for area
1/24/2014The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for northwest Ohio under which it predicts 2 to 5 inches of snow from early afternoon today until late Saturday in an area stretching from Toledo to the northern outskirts of Columbus.
The advisory takes effect at 1 p.m. today and will replace a wind-chill advisory now in effect. Blowing snow is expected to be the main problem during the afternoon, but a fresh storm system is expected to pass through the region during the evening.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the teens by evening and hold steady overnight, but wind chills will remain low, with winds increasing to 20 to 30 mph and gusting to 40. Drivers' visibility may drop to a quarter-mile during snow and blowing snow.
East of Toledo, snowfall forecasts range from 2 to 4 inches west of I-71 to 4 to 6 inches east of that highway. Snow is only expected to be a couple of inches in southeast Michigan.
Additional snow showers are forecast for Toledo on Sunday.
