A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle that drove away from the scene in West Toledo late Wednesday has died, authorities said.

Donald Galdys, 59, of Toledo, was pronounced dead at Toledo Hospital at 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

Mr. Galdys was walking west on eastbound Alexis at Rambo Lane and was in the roadway next to the curb about 8:50 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Robert Conboy, 83, of 5066 Jamieson Dr., who was driving in the curb lane of Alexis, police said.

A witness then followed the vehicle and reported its license plate number and the direction of flight to police, officers said.

The driver was later located, arrested, charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident, and booked into the Lucas County jail. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond following arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court.
