NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio — A West Virginia man was killed and a West Virginia woman critically injured early Tuesday morning in a car-semi crash on I-75 near this Wood County community.

Stephen Humphries of Nitro, W.Va., 22, the car’s driver, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Jessica King, 23, of Kanawha, W.Va., his passenger, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where she was in critical condition late Tuesday.

The semi was stopped for a traffic crash in the northbound lanes about two miles north of State Rt. 18 at about 1:50 a.m. when the car struck it in the rear, closing northbound I-75 for about two hours, troopers said.

Kenneth Mossbarger, 42, of Tipp City, Ohio, the driver of the semi, was not hurt, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation. Wood County was under a Level 2 snow emergency at the time for snow-covered, slick roads, but it was unclear whether weather issues caused the crash.
