The 19-month closing of the Anthony Wayne Bridge for a major overhaul will be the subject of an Ohio Department of Transportation public meeting next week.

ODOT has announced the bridge will close on March 17 and work will end in September, 2015. Contractor E.S. Wagner of Oregon will replace two truss spans on the suspension bridge's approaches, redeck all other spans, and repair, rebuild, or replace sidewalks, lights, fences, and railings. The contract is valued at $28.7 million.

The truss-span replacements require closing the bridge to traffic and pedestrians. The spans, considered dangerous because of potential failure and collapse, will be replaced with a sturdier design.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the East Toledo Family Center, 1020 Varland Ave.
