FREMONT — The Sandusky County Republican Party’s central committee appointed a write-in candidate to fill the remainder of a term vacated by former Commissioner Matt Damschroder.
Charles Schwochow, who is running as a Republican write-in for the commissioner post, took the oath of office Wednesday after being appointed as a commissioner Tuesday, said Justin Smith, Sandusky County Republican Party chairman.
Mr. Damschroder resigned his spot as commissioner last month to become a Fremont firefighter. His term would have expired at the end of the year, and he also withdrew his re-election bid.
Mr. Schwochow, who will fill the remainder of the term, is a former member of the Fremont school board, Mr. Smith said.
Democrat Wilson Forney is also running for commissioner.
