The Leadership Fund, a political action committee formed in 2001 as a separate, segregated fund of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce, said Monday that it endorsed South Toledo businessman Marcia Helman for the District 2 Toledo City Council election.

Ben Brown, chairman of the Leadership Fund, said Ms. Helman “would bring a good element to city council, given her business involvement.” The independent owns an ice cream parlor.

As part of the endorsement process, all candidates appearing on the May 6 Primary Election ballot were invited to interview with members of the Leadership Fund Board.

Incumbent Matt Cherry, a Democrat and business agent for Sheet Metal Workers Local 33, received his party’s endorsement in January. The Lucas County Republican Party endorsed Joe Celusta for the special election.

Democrat Bob Vasquez, a member of the Toledo Board of Education since 2008, is also seeking the seat.
