LINDSEY, Ohio — The Sandusky County Park District has broken ground for its Nature Center at Creek Bend Farm, which is expected to open in the fall. The nature center will be the cornerstone of nature education and exploration for the park district, officials said at the groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month.

The site just south of Lindsey was purchased in 2002 through a donation from the Robert and Frances Roush family and a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission’s Clean Ohio Conservation Fund and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Coastal Restoration Grant Program.

The property, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was the home of Fran Roush and Bob Roush, a former Sandusky County commissioner.

The park district is developing a 1930s-1950s era farm park at the site, where trails are open daily for hiking. The house and barns are open only during scheduled programs.
