Thousands participated in marathon, half marathon, and 5K road races today at the 38th annual Glass City Marathon. The race started under brilliant sunshine and cool weather as runners began on the campus of the University of Toledo and wound their way through Ottawa Hills and Sylvania among other Toledo neighborhoods.

Kenya native Geoffrey Kiprotich ran away with today's Medical Mutual Glass City Marathon.
Kiprotich, 35, a longtime marathon veteran who trains in Toledo, pulled away from the field at the 18-mile mark and crossed the finish line inside the Glass Bowl in 2:24.02.
Katie Kay, 31, a mother of three from Fairview Park was the top woman with a time of 2:56.27.
Kenyan Julius Kiptoo, 36, who spends most of his time in Toledo, won the men's half marathon in 1:18.53. Northview graduate Tamara Marquardt, 25, was the top woman with a personal-best time of 1:18.53.
