A large, medium-pressure gas line at Ottawa River Road and Suder Avenue was broken today, causing two convenience stores to be evacuated and a partial shutdown of northbound I-75 shortly after 3:30 p.m..

Toledo police shut down Northbound I-75 at Ottawa River Road after a smell of natural gas was reported, officials said. Toledo fire and Columbia Gas crews were on scene assessing the air quality and damage to the line in Point Place.

Two gas stations -- Sunoco and Barney's -- near the broken line were evacuated; notifications of a possible evacuation were being made to residents of the River Bend Apartment complex.

Columbia Gas spokesman Chris Kozak said crews are on the scene to repair the line and that he was not aware of any evacuations.
