The Metroparks of the Toledo Area board approved construction plans Wednesday to transform a Monclova Township house into a visitors’ center for the Fallen Timbers battlefield and the Fallen Timbers State Memorial.

The Lathrop Co. of Maumee was hired for the $380,000 project to convert a 1,600-square-foot, ranch-style house on Jerome Road into a visitors’ center with restrooms, meeting room with kitchenette, and two offices. The contract includes creating a parking area.

The structure was among houses acquired by the park district near the Fallen Timbers battlefield, which is not yet open. The visitors’ center is near a footbridge over U.S. 24 that links the battlefield site to the Fallen Timbers Memorial, which the Metroparks system manages.

The visitors’ center is expected to be open by late summer.
