UTMC doctor’s trial delayed until June 26

Ebraheim charged in fatal collision

Dr. Nabil Ebraheim is charged with vehicular manslaughter for an Aug. 30 crash that killed a Swanton man.

The trial of a University of Toledo Medical Center physician charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death of a Swanton motorcyclist has been delayed until June 26.

Dr. Nabil Ebraheim, 63, of 2935 Valley View Dr. is charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for an Aug. 30 crash that killed Lawrence J. Hilton, 54, at the corner of Dorr Street and Richards Road. He told Toledo police he stopped for a flashing red light at the intersection then pulled out and collided with the oncoming motorcycle.

Toledo Municipal Court Judge Timothy Kuhlman agreed Friday to delay the bench trial because defense attorneys had not received reports from two Toledo police officers expected to be called as expert witnesses in the case 21 days in advance of the trial.

The courtroom was packed with family and supporters of the victim and Dr. Ebraheim, an orthopedic specialist at UTMC, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital.

Friends and relatives of Mr. Hilton held a demonstration outside the courthouse before the 1:30 p.m. trial. The demonstrators want tougher penalties for motorists involved in crashes where others with the right-of-way are killed or injured.
