U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, left, greets Vietnam veteran Don Miller of Point Place before a news conference at Northwood VFW Post 2984 to discuss the Significant Event Tracker Act. Originally an idea by northwest Ohio veterans, the Democratic senator introduced legislation last week to establish a system to track service member exposure to events that might trigger Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or cause traumatic brain injury. Without any way to concretely track such exposure currently, veterans shoulder the burden of proof when filing for health-care claims. ‘Veterans should be able to focus on their recovery,’ Senator Brown said, ‘not their diagnosis.’
