Clay High sex case sentencing delayed

The sentencing of a former athletic trainer at Clay High School who admitted to having sex with a student was delayed Thursday to give her attorney time to prepare a detailed report.

Melinda Rober, 36, of 2552 106th St. pleaded no contest and was found guilty June 5 of two counts of sexual battery in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. A former contract employee of ProMedica, Rober admitted she and a 17-year-old boy engaged in oral sex in the school’s football locker room on two occasions between December, 2011, and May 31, 2012. She also admitted having intercourse with the same young man at his home in Oregon between Sept. 1, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2012.

Her attorney, Stephen Hartman, asked for the sentencing to be continued so that he could prepare a memorandum that would give the court “a better, fuller picture of what this case is about and of my client as well.” Judge Gary Cook reset sentencing for July 14.
