The brother and sister duo that Wood County sent to the 2014 National Special Olympics USA Games last week have returned from the Princeton, N.J. games with three medals each.

Swimmer Jason Rupert, 23, brought back two silvers — in the 50-yard freestyle and 4x25 medley relay — and a bronze in the 50-yard breaststroke. He took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle.

This was the second national games for Katie Rupert, 24. She has previously entered as a swimmer, but this year she competed as a cyclist and took home three medals: a gold in the 2K cycling competition and silvers in the 5K and 10K races.

Almost 3,500 athletes from all over the United States competed in the national games.

The athletes have trained at Wood Lane, a nonprofit group which supports the Wood County Special Olympics, for 13 years.
