Beginning today, Lucas County Canine Care & Control is waiving redemption and boarding fees for owners who come to claim their lost dogs over the weekend.

Fido Freedom Days runs through Sunday will help reunite owners with their furry family members. Dogs are frequently scared by fireworks and other noises associated with Independence Day, and the shelter says more dogs are lost around July 4 than any other time of the year.

Owners who visit the shelter this weekend will not have to pay standard redemption and boarding fees to reclaim their lost pets. For dogs that are not licensed, their owners will have to purchase a $25 license. The waiver does not include any possible citations.

The shelter at 410 S. Erie St. near downtown Toledo is open from 3 to 6 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. See photos of all dogs in the shelter at lucascountydogs.com.
