Toledo man arraigned in rape of teen girl

A 23-year-old Toledo man was arraigned Thursday for allegedly raping a mentally handicapped girl Wednesday.

Tyrell Smith, of 1800 N. McCord Rd, is charged with three counts of rape of a victim with a mental or physical disability. He was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court and ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $750,000 bond.

According to affidavits, the rape was reported Wednesday and occurred in a South Toledo home. The victim, 17, told police she complied with the suspect’s demands because “she was afraid he would physically harm her.”

Mr. Smith is to appear in court again on July 10.
