MONROE — Officials at the Monroe County LIbrary System plan to reopen the L.S. Navarre Branch as soon as possible after closing it on Monday because of an infestation of bedbugs.

Christine Greggs, the public relations librarian, said staffers discovered the bedbugs in a batch of DVDs returned to the library branch.

The city, which owns the library building at 1135 E. Second St., was notified and a pest control company was brought in to evaluate and treat the problem. The infestation was confined to a small part of the collection.

“Nobody was bitten and there were no complaints,” Ms. Greggs said.

A patron who suspects a bedbug in a library item is advised to seal the item in a plastic bag and notify the branch from which it was borrowed. Return the item to a staff member; do not deposit in in a drop box, and do not treat it with insecticide, Ms. Greggs said.
