TIFFIN — A Fostoria man charged with multiple counts related to a Fostoria fire that killed two people and injured a third was found competent Friday to stand trial.

Charles Schaeffer, 44, is to go on trial Oct. 27 in Seneca County Common Pleas Court.

In June, he entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity to counts of complicity to aggravated arson, complicity to aggravated murder, complicity to murder, and complicity to attempted murder. The case stems from a May 26 house fire that killed Danny Marker, Jr., 48, and Tara Vance, 44, and injured Dana Weatherall, 49.

Earlier this week, a trial date for co-defendant Shey Weiker, 31, of Fostoria was set for Oct. 14. A third defendant, Timothy Hall, 20, of Fostoria faces tampering with evidence and obstructing justice charges.
