Amnesty for unpaid camera tickets to end
5/25/2015The city of Toledo’s amnesty program for delinquent red light and speed camera violations will expire June 7, Hicks-Hudson administration officials said.
The program allows people with unpaid violations to pay two-thirds of the delinquent amount and the remaining balance will be forgiven. After the amnesty period expires, the city plans to file lawsuits to collect unpaid fines. No other amnesty programs are planned, city spokesman Stacy Weber said.
The program is available to anyone with delinquent violations if the person has not been named in a collections lawsuit. Collections from the amnesty program will be handled by Scheer, Green, and Burke, CO. L.P.A. The Toledo collection attorneys will take a 15 percent contingency fee on the money they collect.
The fine for Toledo photo-enforcement violations is $120 and a $25 late fee is added if the fine is not paid within 21 days.
Adam Loukx, Toledo law director, said the city has not collected more than $21 million in penalties since the city started camera enforcement in 2000.
Of that amount, $14 million has accumulated in the last five years.
