The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments will offer a series of free gas-cap testing and replacement sessions to reduce pollution related to leaky gas caps, starting with an event Tuesday in downtown Toledo.

Defective gas caps let gasoline vapor leak into the air, adding to ozone pollution. Testing is only a minute or two and replacement caps are free, the council said in a statement.

The first session will be at the TrueNorth Shell Station at 822 Monroe St., between Ontario and Michigan streets, from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Others in June are set for these locations, all from 1 to 3 p.m.:

Wednesday, Barney’s Convenience Mart, 1670 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green; Thursday, Circle K, 103 Anthony Wayne Trail, Waterville; June 13, Kroger, 3301 Navarre Ave., Oregon; June 14, TrueNorth Shell, 4310 W. Central Ave., Toledo, and June 15, Circle K, 8154 Airport Hwy., Holland.
