The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments has a new director of water quality planning.

Kari Gerwin succeeds Kurt Erichsen, who retired Jan. 31 after a 34-year career with TMACOG.

Ms. Gerwin, 40, has been with the metropolitan council since 2012 as a water quality planner. She has been managing the Stormwater Coalition, Watersheds Committee, and the Portage River Basin Council and will assume responsibility for the Water Quality Council, according to a prepared statement.

Her recent projects include direction of a grant program that works to provide funding to farmers for the implementation of nutrient management practices.

She obtained a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and a master’s degree in geography and planning both from the University of Toledo.
