Maumee police Chief James MacDonald will step down in November.

Chief MacDonald sent a letter to Mayor Richard Carr Aug. 27 announcing his retirement. The letter was read during Tuesday’s city council meeting.

“It has been an honor to serve as police chief for the past five years,” Chief MacDonald wrote. “My goal as chief was to move the division forward in technology, efficiency, transparency, preparedness, accountability, and community engagement. I am confident we make advancements in all of those areas.”

Chief MacDonald’s last day on the job will be Nov. 16. He has served the department for 30 years.
