Detention center supervisor arraigned on sexual battery charges

A Toledo man charged with having sex with one of the women he was supervising at the Lucas County Work Release Program was arraigned Tuesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Wesley McClellan-Kincaid, 32, of the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue pleaded not guilty to four counts of sexual battery, a third-degree felony, before Judge Myron Duhart.

The charges allege he had consensual sex on four occasions between Nov. 22 and Dec. 1 with a female resident of work release, which is a minimum-security detention facility where residents are allowed to leave for work, to look for a job, or to go to treatment.

Mr. McClellan-Kincaid, who was employed as a shift supervisor at the time, resigned Dec. 13 after being confronted with the allegations, county officials said.

Judge Duhart allowed Mr. McClellan-Kincaid to remain free on a supervised recognizance bond and ordered that he have no contact with the alleged victim in the case. A pretrial hearing was set for May 15.

Defense attorney Jerome Phillips declined to comment afterward other than to say he was waiting to see the state's evidence in the case.

This is the second such case in Lucas County recently. Last year, then-Lucas County Probation Officer Angela Kimball pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery for having sex with a male client. Kimball, who was fired, was placed on community control for three years and ordered to complete a sex offender program.
